Description
Naltar Valley is a high-mountain valley located near Gilgit in Pakistan. It is known for its tall pine forests, three beautiful lakes called Bashkiri Lakes, and ski slopes. In winter, Naltar gets a lot of snow and becomes a popular spot for skiing. It offers a cool escape in summer and colorful views in autumn. The valley is home to a military ski school and gets very cold in winter.

Best Season to Visit
Spring: (April to May) The snow starts to melt, and the valley turns green with new growth and some flowers. Weather is mild and pleasant.
Summer: (June to August) The best time for general visits. Weather is warm and sunny, perfect for outdoor activities. The lakes are fully melted.
Monsoon/Rainy: /Rainy: (July to August) Gilgit-Baltistan gets less heavy monsoon rain than other parts of Pakistan. Roads can be slippery, but the valley is still green.
Autumn: (September to October) The trees change color to yellow, red, and orange. The weather is cool and clear, good for photography.
Winter: (November to March) The valley is covered in heavy snow. It is very cold but perfect for skiing and enjoying snow activities.
How to Reach
- By Air: The nearest active airport is Gilgit Airport (KGA). From Gilgit, Naltar Valley is about a 1.5 to 2-hour drive by jeep.
- By Road: You can drive to Gilgit city using the Karakoram Highway. From Gilgit, you will need a 4x4 vehicle (jeep) to travel the remaining 34 km to Naltar Valley due to rough roads.
- By Train: There are no railway stations in Gilgit-Baltistan. The nearest major active railway station is Rawalpindi Railway Station, located in Rawalpindi, about 500-600 km south of Gilgit.
- By Public Transport: From Gilgit city, you can find shared jeeps or vans that go towards Naltar Bala. These usually depart from specific points in Gilgit's main market area.
