Satpara Lake is a large natural lake in Skardu, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. It is fed by the melting waters of the Satpara stream. The lake is an important source of fresh water for the people of Skardu valley. A dam was built on the lake, which helps supply water and generate electricity. Autumn: September to November. Cool weather, clear skies, and beautiful golden colors on the trees around the lake. Great for photography and peaceful visits.
Winter: December to February. Very cold, often with snow. The lake might freeze in parts. Roads can be closed. Not recommended for most visitors unless experienced in cold weather travel.
How to Reach
- By Air: Nearest airport is Skardu International Airport (KDU), located in Skardu. It is a short drive from the city to the lake.
- By Road: You can reach Skardu via the Karakoram Highway (KKH) and then the Jaglot-Skardu Road. From Skardu city, take a local jeep or taxi to Satpara Lake, which is about 30 minutes away.
- By Train: Pakistan's railway network does not reach Gilgit-Baltistan. The nearest major active railway station is Rawalpindi Railway Station, Punjab. This is over 600 km away, and travel from there to Skardu by road takes around 16-24 hours.
- By Public Transport: From Skardu city center, you can hire a private taxi or a shared jeep to reach Satpara Lake. These vehicles are commonly found in the main bazaar area of Skardu.
