Your journey

Lahore's Grandeur

We start our week right in Lahore, immersing ourselves in its Mughal past. First, we walk through Lahore Fort, admiring its intricate palaces and gardens that tell stories of emperors. Just steps away, the Badshahi Mosque stands immense and powerful, its red sandstone soaring towards the sky. Later, we’ll experience the Walled City's authentic flavors for dinner.

Punjab Plains to Mountain Gateways

Today, we head north, leaving Lahore's flatlands behind. Watch the landscapes shift from fertile Punjabi fields to the undulating Salt Range hills. Our drive offers a real-time view of rural life before we settle into our guesthouse near Besham, ready for the mountains ahead.

Along the Indus Gorge

We follow the Indus River, driving deep into its formidable gorge on the Karakoram Highway. Sheer cliffs rise around us, and the powerful river carves its ancient path below. This segment offers a raw, unfiltered look at the Himalayas' southern edge before we reach Chilas for the night.

Entering Skardu Valley & Mountain Roads

The landscape transforms dramatically as we continue towards Skardu. Leaving the dry, rugged Chilas terrain, we'll begin to see green pockets and the first colossal peaks of the Karakoram. A dedicated off-road stretch, perhaps leading to a stunning viewpoint or a small settlement, will give us our first taste of high-altitude jeep adventuring before we arrive in Skardu.

Skardu's Lakes and Legends

Today we explore the immediate Skardu area. We'll visit Upper Kachura Lake, a clear blue expanse reflecting the surrounding peaks, then see Shangrila Resort, known for its unique setting. Later, we walk through Skardu's local market, observing daily life and the lively trade of the region.

Shigar Fort and Cold Desert Sands

We take a drive into the stunning Shigar Valley, visiting the beautifully restored Shigar Fort, a former Raja's palace now a heritage guesthouse. Afterwards, experience the unique Skardu Cold Desert, vast stretches of sand dunes set against snow-capped peaks – a truly unexpected sight at this altitude.

Indus Views & Skardu Farewell

We spend our final morning taking in the powerful sight of the Indus River carving its way through Skardu's colossal mountains, reflecting on the varied landscapes and cultures we've experienced this week. After a hearty breakfast, we prepare for our onward travels from Skardu, carrying memories of the forts, valleys, and mountain roads.
