Best Season to Visit
Spring: April to May. Snow starts to melt, trails open up. Days are cool and clear, good for trekking before it gets too hot.
Summer: June to August. This is the best time for trekking. Weather is warm and sunny, with the clearest mountain views. Trails are fully open.
Monsoon/Rainy: /Rainy: Late July to September. Can have heavy rains, especially lower down. Trails can be slippery, and landslides are possible. Views might be hidden by clouds.
Autumn: September to October. Weather is cool and dry. Skies are usually clear, offering great mountain views. The trees change colors, making the landscape beautiful.
Winter: November to March. Very cold with heavy snowfall. Roads and trails become blocked and dangerous. Access is very difficult, usually only for experienced winter climbers.
How to Reach
- By Air: The nearest active airport is Gilgit Airport (GIL). It is about 130 kilometers from Chilas. From Gilgit, you would travel by road to reach the trek starting points for Nanga Parbat Base Camp.
- By Road: Travel on the Karakoram Highway (KKH) to Chilas. From Chilas, you take a local jeep to Raikot Bridge, then another local jeep to Fairy Meadows, followed by a trek to the base camp. For the Rupal Face side (where these coordinates point), you would take a jeep from Chilas or Tato to Rupal Village and then trek.
- By Train: There are no train services to Chilas or Gilgit-Baltistan. The nearest major active railway station is Rawalpindi Railway Station (RWP), which is about 450 kilometers away. From Rawalpindi, you must travel by road.
- By Public Transport: Buses and vans run regularly from major cities like Rawalpindi and Gilgit to Chilas. From Chilas, local jeeps or shared vans take you to the starting points of the trekking trails.
